Over time, as the sun damages your skin, the temporary wrinkles that form on your face when you move your facial muscles may become more permanent. This can cause you to look stern, tired or angry even when the underlying muscles are still. This happens because the sun degrades your skin so much that it loses natural elasticity.

What is Botox?

Botox is a protein made from Botulinum toxin, which the bacterium Clostridium botulinum produces- its a neurotoxin. These substances target the nervous system, disrupting the nerve signalling processes that stimulate muscle contraction. This is how the drug causes temporary muscle paralysis.

In order for any muscle to contract, the nerves release a chemical messenger called acetylcholine at the junction where nerve endings meet muscle cells. Acetylcholine attaches to receptors on the muscle cells and causes the cells to contract, or shorten.

Botox injections prevent the release of acetylcholine, which stops the muscle cells from contracting. In this way, the toxin helps the muscles to become less stiff.

How long does botox last?

Botox takes anywhere up to 14 days to kick in. In general, Botox lasts 3-4 months. There will certainly be patients in which in lasts longer, in that 4-6 month range, or shorter, in that 2-month range. It is also common for first-timers to notice that it may not last as long initially but may last longer after the second treatment. The longer you treat a muscle, the density breaks down, so naturally, the muscle becomes weaker and therefore it loses its biceps! In other words, you’ve managed to keep those muscles out of the gym so over time and will regular treatments the results will improve and last longer! Win-win.

Will I still have expression in my face?

Botox treatments are designed to smooth dynamic wrinkles in the forehead and around eyes, they do not affect your facial expression. The final result can be tailored to each patient and can be discussed at the initial consultation.

Do you use Botox at the clinic?

We only use Botox by allergen at the clinic.

Will having more Botox make it last longer?

The answer is no, a muscle requires the correct units to block the receptor and cease contraction therefore adding more units could actually hinder the result and could possibly be harmful.

Is the top-up included?

At two weeks after a treatment you will receive a review appt, this has to happen within the time range so we advise you arrange this with your practitioner prior to leaving. Please note we cannot review/adjust botox once we have left this time frame!

What if we get put in lockdown again and I miss my review?

Unfortunately in these awful times that is the risk we take, we cannot guarantee this won’t happen and again, in accordance with medicine guidelines we cannot administer the medication outside of these time frames.

Are there risks associated?

Of course! It is important you discuss these at length in your consultation, ask questions and fully understand the process before committing. We advise taking time after your consultation to think about what was discussed and decide whether this is the right treatment for you!

Does being a man impact the price?

No, and yes. it’s mainly due to the density of your muscle that can impact how many units will be required to address a muscle, therefore there is a £50 surplus for men.

Will I be provided aftercare ?

This is emailed to you after your treatment and will also be covered with you at your appointment, please make sure you ask any questions you like: is it important you understand all your aftercare.
